RIDGWAY — Misplays haunted the Curwensville Area High School softball team in a 7-2 Northern Allegany League Small School South Division loss to Johnsonburg at the Ridgway Elementary School Field Wednesday afternoon.
None of the Lady Rams’ runs off Rylee Young were earned.
“Rylee deserved better,” Lady Tide coach Allen Leigey said. “When you give up no earned runs and don’t walk anybody and strike out nine, you shouldn’t lose.”
Curwensville did take a short-lived lead in the second inning.
Kayli Sedgwick was hit by a pitch, and pinch-runner Kelsi Bumbarger then circled the sacks on Hayley McGarry’s single and a Johnsonburg throwing error.
The Lady Rams didn’t need a hit to take control with four runs in the bottom of the third inning.
A dropped third strike and three miscues gave winning pitcher Nicole Myers all the support she needed as she held the Lady Tide to two hits. She did walk six and hit two while fanning five.
Sedgwick drove in Curwensville’s other run with a sixth-inning double.
A two-out error and Brittany Thorwart’s run-scoring double had put Johnsonburg ahead 6-1 in the fourth.
Jaylie Johnson and Ashton Watts had a pair of hits for the Lady Rams, who moved to 6-2 in the league and 8-2 overall with their third win in as many nights.
The Lady Tide, who had nipped the Lady Rams 3-2 on April 5, fell to 6-4 with a 3-3 league record.
Curwensville goes on the road again Friday to play undefeated DuBois Central Catholic in another league game.
