Coming off a big win in Pennsylvania Tuesday night, Donald Trump said he’s already secured the majority of delegates there.
Capturing the Keystone State’s 71 delegates is crucial to the front-runner’s quest for the 1,237 delegates to secure the nomination ahead of July’s Republican convention.
But the state has a confusing process for awarding its delegates, with 54 of them unbound and beholden to no one. The state’s other 17 delegates will automatically go to Trump, who handily won there.
On CNN’s “New Day” Wednesday morning, Trump said he’s already won the support of most of these wild card delegates.
“We also signed a lot of delegates … We have them, as opposed to waiting around for the convention,” he told host Chris Cuomo. “Others are to come. Many of them are already signed.”
Looking ahead to next week’s Indiana primary, Trump said he’s met with Gov. Mike Pence. While Trump praised Pence, he said he didn’t think the governor would endorse anyone.
“He’s done a very, very good job as governor,” Trump said. “I don’t know if we’ll get his endorsement.”
