CURWENSVILLE – A poor defensive effort cost the Curwensville Lady Tide on Thursday afternoon at home, losing to Brockway 5-1.
Brockway out hit Curwensville 10 to seven,but the Lady Tide committed five errors in the field, primarily leading to the loss.
Two Lady Tide mistakes cost Curwensville two runs in the top of the first, with another error in the third helping the Lady Rovers with another pair of tallies.
The lone run for the Lady Tide came in the bottom half of the first inning when leadoff hitter Hannah Dixon belted a triple and then scored on the overthrow to third in a attempt to cut her down.
Curwensville had two runners on base in the third, fourth and sixth innings but could not push any more runs across home plate.
Teghan Jacobson and Madison Bumbarger each had two hits to pace the Lady Tide offense.
Brockway was fueled by three hits from Ally Buesink, which included two doubles, and Anndi Bartlett and Morgan Uhl chipping in with two singles each.
Lady Tide head coach Allen Leigey didn’t mince words about his team’s effort, “We didn’t play a very good game, that was obvious. I didn’t see any urgency with us today. The fire just wasn’t there. We had hits but just couldn’t push any runs across. I am sure we will learn from this.”
The Lady Tide, now 5-3 on the year, are home again on Monday afternoon when they host Purchase Line at 4:15 pm. The Lady Red Dragons defeated Curwensville earlier in April, 4-2, at Purchase Line.
