MILESBURG — The Clearfield Area High School softball team found it rough going against a top tier Mountain League foe again Wednesday as Bald Eagle Area capitalized on walks and errors for an 11-1 victory at the Milesburg Little League Field.
The Lady Bison, who had only two hits in a 9-0 loss to league leader Philipsburg-Osceola Tuesday, were held to three singles by Lady Eagle Sidney Shultz.
Brooke Cline had the run-producer in the third inning, driving in Erica Hanes after she walked and advanced to third on a sacrifice and a wild pitch.
The Lady Bison left five runners on base in the fourth and fifth innings as Shultz got out of trouble with flyouts.
She registered three strikeouts with two walks and one hit batsman in the makeup game that was halted in the bottom of the fifth because of the Mercy Rule.
Three Clearfield (3-5) pitchers gave up only five hits, but they issued nine free passes, with six of those runners coming around to score.
Three misplays factored into a 5-0 start by BEA (6-3) against Raeleigh Redden in the first two innings, with three of the runs unearned.
Relievers Erica Hanes and Abby Fedder both were responsible for three earned runs.
Key hits for the Lady Eagles, who sit in third place in the league at 5-2, were Megan Kresovich’s two-run triple in the second inning and Dallas Dillon’s game-ending two-run single in the fifth. Dillon also had an RBI groundout.
Clearfield winds up a four-game week against fourth-place Central Friday at Martinsburg.
