CLEARFIELD – The Clearfield Municipal Authority heard updates on several projects, including providing water to residents along the Glen Richey Highway.
Chairman Russ Triponey said he and Manager Kevin Shifter met with State Rep. Tommy Sankey, R-73 of Clearfield, concerning bringing water to the residents. As it currently stands, the cost is prohibitive and the two were hoping Sankey could help them find additional funding to make the project feasible.
In his report, Engineer Jim Balliet of Gwin, Dobson & Foreman Inc. explained that the cost to the Glen Richey/Clover Hill areas would cost an estimated $3.2 million.
The state Department of Environmental Protection would pay for the pipe and bedding materials, which would be approximately $630,000 of the cost. The number of residents served is only 56 and the authority currently cannot justify the cost to residents for the extension.
Triponey said Sankey listened to their concerns and said he will work on his end to do what he can for funding. Meanwhile, Triponey said he and other board members can work at the local end and maybe find ways to bring the cost down.
“We will try everything we can before we give up,” Triponey said.
In the engineer’s report, Balliet requested permission to put the waterline replacement project to the new wastewater treatment facility out for bid. He said the line will go under Clearfield Creek and they have met with DEP and the Clearfield Conservation District about the matter.
The wastewater treatment facility construction is proceeding well, Balliet reported, with various systems being installed, including HVAC, plumbing, equipment installation, etc. Work is also proceeding on the Montgomery Run Water Treatment Facility with the installation of control panels and conduit for new valves.
Balliet also reported that CMA and Lawrence Township will be presenting a compliance update to DEP at the end of the month regarding Combined Sewer Overflows and Sanitary Sewer Overflows. He added there were no SSO events this month and he expects DEP to accept the update.
The board also received a letter of resignation from member Larry Frantz.
An executive meeting regarding possible litigation was held after the regular meeting with no action taken.
