PHILIPSBURG — Freshman Kamryn Harris pitched a two-hitter and Haylee Hayward drove in three runs as undefeated Mountain League front-runner Philipsburg-Osceola halted Clearfield’s three-game winning streak, 9-0, in high school softball action at Curtis Park Tuesday afternoon.
The Lady Bison’s lone threat came in the fifth inning when an error and singles by Lindsay Hand and Brooke Cline loaded the bases with two outs.
Harris protected the Lady Mounties 4-0 lead by inducing a groundout and then retired all six batters she faced in the last two frames, striking out the last four to boost her total to 12. She did not issue a walk.
Loser Raeleigh Redden pitched better than the score indicates, for only two of the Lady Mountie runs were earned. She gave up five hits and four walks while striking out four.
Abby Fedder relieved with one out in the sixth and allowed one hit, a two-run single by Chelsey Henry.
Maggie Peck had slugged a two-run homer earlier in the inning for Philipsburg-Osceola, which stands 8-0 with six league wins.
Hayward provided the only run Harris would need with a sacrifice fly in the first inning that plated Peck, who was at third base after a walk, a steal and a wild pitch.
The Lady Mounties tallied three runs in the second frame, two on a triple by Hayward after Peck and Kylie Thal had reached on errors.
Henry’s double and another Lady Bison miscue made it 5-0 in the fifth.
Clearfield (3-4, 2-4 ML) will be back in action Wednesday against Bald Eagle Area at Wingate.
