CLEARFIELD – The Clearfield Area School District and Lock Haven University would like to continue to strengthen their relationship within the local community.
At Monday night’s committee meetings, Superintendent Terry Struble said LHU’s athletic coaches would like to use the district’s facilities for summer day camps.
If approved by the board, he said the day camps would be hosted by LHU. To start out, he said camps would be held in the areas of swimming, basketball, volleyball and football.
“It would be as arranged by their head coaches in conjunction with our coaches,” he said. A fee of $50 would be charged for each camp to cover any incidental costs that may occur, Struble said.
Struble noted that if the district’s costs would exceed a combined $200, the cost would be covered by LHU. “We really aren’t envisioning accruing any costs to run the camps other than maybe some extra utilities and paper products,” he said.
“But for some reason if something would happen and we would go over $200, then Lock Haven has agreed to pay those costs.” When asked, Strule said it was a possibility that LHU may want to use the school’s cafeteria.
When asked, Struble and Principal Tim Janocko said it was a possibility that day camps would be offered in other sports in the future. “It’s a first year to try,” said Struble. Board members commented that they felt it would be a beneficial program.
