Clearfield Track Teams Sweep Mountain League Foes

HYDE — The Clearfield Track & Field teams got back on track Tuesday when they swept Mountain League foes Bald Eagle Area and Huntingdon.

The boys won 111-39 over BEA and 141-7 over an out-manned Huntingdon squad. The girls scores were more respectable at 94-43 over BEA and 98-51 against Huntingdon.

The boys upped their record to 4-1 with the two wins, while the girls are now 3-2.

Bison Head coach John Jacob summarized the meets with, “For the boys and girls teams, we went undefeated in the relays.  All of the kids ran well in all of the relays and came away with six great wins.  That is pretty much the deciding factor in any meet that you want to win.  As a coaching staff, we try and spread our kids around to get the relay points and still have enough victories in the individual events.  I have to give special credit to Mindy Flemming in the girls 4×100, she stepped into a spot she had never run before and kept us in the race for a close victory.

“Individually the boys had the usual suspects claiming victories in the sprints, hurdles, distance and throws.  Bront Strickland, JT Swales, Dave McKenzie,  Mason Royer, Kyle Biancuzo and Matt Collins had great meets once again.  Some of the younger also kids got a chance to shine. Jeremiah Vezza , Aaron Aycock, and Ryan Chew have started to make some great strides in the distance events.  These younger kids make the difference in the close meets and are really going to be counted on in the championship part of our season.  It is nice to see how competitive they are in practice and meets and their hard work is really starting to pay off.

“For the hurdles, Spencer Graham and Pratan Steiner are battling in practice every day and that has turned them into menaces for other teams in the hurdles.  You can see these two boys starting to excel and make it difficult for teams to get that key second and third place.  As a coach they are making my job very easy. Ryan Forcey, Cody Shaw and Isaac Rummary impressed in the sprints.  They are also starting to do the little things in practice that show up big on race day. In the throws, Andrew Josephson, Grady Yarger and Levi Luzier added to our point total and put up some impressive distances.

“On the girls side, again the top guns were on display – Rachel Glenny, Madison Jones, Macy Forrest, Raquel Grice, Jaclyn Freeman, Denise Stephens and Mikayle Rebo. Some of the younger girls impressed just as much with their meet today.  Mindy Flemming and Grace Johnson  both had good performances in individual events and had strong legs in the 4×100 realy. Katrina Spence continues to impress in the hurdles and the jumps and makes it nearly impossible for anyone else to even come close placing in the hurdles.  Ashley Struble is running like a seasoned veteran in the distance events. In her 1600 race and 800 race  she was able to capitalize on the other runner’s mistakes to pick up some key places.

“As a staff we looked at the results and the younger kids names were popping up all over the place.  We are extremely satisfied with how everyone did today.”

Both teams will be back in action when they host another Mountain League tri-meet when Central and Philipsburg-Osceola invade the Bison Sports Complex track.
