INDIANA, PA — Indiana University of Pennsylvania was host to the 2016 FloNational Wrestling Championships this past weekend.
Competing in the prestigious off-season tourney was Clearfield Bison 170-pound sophomore Luke McGonigal.
A 2-3 record in the 27-man bracket was good enough for eighth place and an All-American standing.
McGonigal received an opening round bye, and then defeated Brandon Stokes, a 2016 PIAA AA medalist for Milton, 13-1 to reach the quarterfinals.
McGonigal was sent to the wrestlebacks by eventual tourney champion Nino Bonaccorsi.
A 4-2 win over Frank Guida of Parkland in the consolation round of eight assured McGonigal a top-8 finish.
He was then defeated by the third place winner Ken Parker and was dropped to the seventh place match where he was decisioned 5-2 by Jacob Hart.
