Thomas K. Barber Jr. died March 16, 2016 of cardiac failure while resting in his home at the age of 60.
He is survived by his former wife, Diana, and their two children, Thomas and Jenna, and his grandchildren, Tom Jr., Jack and Lola, all of whom live in California.
He is also survived by his older sister, Peg in Oregon, his younger brother, Robert in Pennsylvania and their families. Â He was preceded in death by his parents, Margot and Thomas King Barber.
He was born in 1955 near Chicago, Ill., and his family moved to California when he was 14. Â He lived there until relocating to central Pennsylvania in 2006.
His career included years of working as an associate pastor at churches in both central and southern California, followed by many years in sales in the industry of wholesale electrical parts for General Electric.
He had a life-long enjoyment of music, especially playing the electric and acoustic guitars. Â He played and performed on different worship teams at his churches, and began some songwriting in retirement. Â He also enjoyed the hobby of nature photography.
He spent the most recent years of his life as a resident in DuBois, and he expressed on many occasions the feeling of a “hometown” that grew with the friendships he found there.
His family would like to express gratitude for that, especially to Pastor Hill and Smithtown Community Church for their welcoming.
No local memorial is planned, and his family will gather for private memorial and burial at the family gravesite in Illinois. Â Mr. Barber will be laid to rest alongside his father, mother and grandmother.
