A construction worker died after falling from the 53rd floor of a tower in downtown Los Angeles and striking a moving car, authorities said.
The worker was on his second day on the job Thursday at the Wilshire Grand Center, where the incident occurred, CNN affiliate KTLA reported.
He landed on the rear of the car and was pronounced dead at the scene, the Los Angeles Fire Department said.
A woman driving the car was hospitalized.
Turner Construction, the company at the site, said the man was not doing anything work-related at the time of the incident.
It declined to elaborate, saying it is awaiting a coroner’s report.
“Our hearts go out to the family of the deceased,” the company said in a statement to the affiliate. “We are also sending our deepest sympathies to our loyal and dedicated workers for whom today’s tragedy is deeply saddening.”
The 73-story Wilshire Grand Center is under construction and scheduled to open next year.
