Clearfield Borough Council Looks to Increase Enforcement on Riverwalk

CLEARFIELD – Clearfield Borough officials will investigate increased enforcement on the riverwalk.

At Thursday’s Clearfield Borough Council meeting, Police Chief Vince McGinnis asked the council to look into additional signage on the riverwalk.

McGinnis said with the recent warm weather, the officers are encountering bicyclists who have been using the stairs of the riverwalk as a ramp and jumping off. He said there are also people riding their bikes through the dirt areas, which have recently been hydro-seeded.

Mayor Jim Schell said the bicyclists are riding their bikes along the tops of the walls. He said this is not only damaging to the walls, but dangerous for the riders, as well.

McGinnis said when the officers see people riding their bikes and skateboards on the walls and steps, they will talk to the individuals, but there are no ordinances or signs in place, so the officers are unable to do any more to keep people from misusing the riverwalk.

The council instructed Solicitor F. Cortez Bell III to research ordinances to help with the situation.
