Ward A. Spence Jr., 91, of DuBois and formerly of Clearfield, died Tuesday, March 15, 2016 at the Penn Highlands DuBois.
He was born Aug. 18, 1924 in Clearfield, a son of the late Ward A. Sr. and Jane (Undercoffer) Spence.
Mr. Spence was an avid photographer, archer, electronics aficionado, audiophile and a lover of nature.
He served his country in U.S. Navy during World War II. He was honorably discharged with the rank of electronics technician’s mate.
He was stationed on the USS Panamint during the American assault on Okinawa and witnessed numerous Kamikaze attacks.
Mr. Spence is survived by two nieces and four nephews, Jack Spence and his wife, Jan, Jeryl Mitsch and her husband, Larry, Ward Spence and his wife, Sandy, Eric Spence and his wife, Lori, Jeanine Droeger and her husband, Ed and Daniel Spence and his wife, Peggy.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother, John L. ‘Jack’ Spence and his wife, Jean.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be said at 10 a.m. Saturday at the St. Francis Catholic Church, Clearfield, with Father John L. Miller as celebrant. Burial will follow in the Calvary Cemetery, Clearfield.
Friends will be received from 5 p.m. – 7 p.m. Friday and from 9 a.m. – 9:30 a.m. Saturday at the Kevin A. Beardsley Funeral Home, Clearfield.
