DUBOIS – A Brockway man will stand trial for allegedly breaking into a Sandy Township residence and assaulting two people.
Chad A. Miller, 41, 1049 Seventh Ave., Brockway, is charged with burglary, criminal trespass, two counts of simple assault and criminal mischief.
After a preliminary hearing Friday, District Judge Patrick Ford ruled all charges be sent on to the court of common pleas for further disposition. Miller’s bail is set at $50,000, unsecured.
According to the affidavit of probable cause, police were called to a Mocking Bird Lane residence Feb. 25 to investigate an assault.
The victim told police that her ex-boyfriend, Miller, was the one who intruded into her home and assaulted her and another man. She explained that she moved into this residence in January to get away from Miller, who was allegedly abusive.
She did have contact with him the previous day when he was at her apartment to pick up his sunglasses. He was there about an hour before he became angry and pounded his fist on her end table. After she asked him to leave, he left, she said.
Earlier on Feb. 25 he allegedly text-messaged her and stated that he saw her with an old boyfriend and referred to her with derogatory names.
That night she heard something at the back door of her residence. Shortly after that, she heard a knock at the front door that became aggressive, she told police.
She yelled for the person at the door to go away because she thought it was Miller. The door was locked but the latch doesn’t always catch, she explained.
This door flew open and Miller allegedly entered the residence. He allegedly charged at her, knocking her into a corner. Miller was screaming and allegedly punched her twice in the right side of her head and cheek.
Miller allegedly charged the other victim who was on the couch and punched him in the nose.
Miller then allegedly punched a 43-inch television she had just bought and cracked the screen. He then allegedly kicked another 32-inch television, cracking that screen.
When she picked up her phone to dial 911, Miller fled.
The officers could see that the victim had swelling to her right cheek, and she could feel a contusion just inside her hairline. Her eyeglasses were damaged from the attack. The male victim had a bleeding cut on the bridge of his nose and blood was coming from both nostrils.
Officers attempted to contact Miller at his Brockway apartment, but he would not answer the door or his phone. His vehicle allegedly had signs of recently being driven and allegedly had a fresh blood splatter both on the steering wheel and driver’s side door handle.
