CLEARFIELD – Interested in learning something new?
The Clearfield County Area Agency on Aging Inc., in collaboration with Lock Haven University Clearfield, announces the next educational seminar offered through the Clearfield Community Lifelong Learning Institute, Maple Sugaring, on March 15.
Courses are geared towards the interests of the baby boomers and older citizens. Typical sessions will last approximately 90 minutes and will be taught primarily by Lock Haven University faculty and community individuals with specific expertise. All programs will be free, or very low cost.
March is Maple Sugaring Season at Parker Dam State Park and you can attend this session to learn how real maple syrup is made. Learn the sweet story of maple sugaring – how it was discovered, how it was made years ago, and how you can make it today.
Learn to identify maple trees in winter, how to choose the right trees for tapping, where to place the taps, and so on. The best part – there will be free taste samples for all participants. Discover the tradition.
Carey Huber, environmental education specialist, and Eric Rensel, natural resource specialist, will present the class at Lock Haven University-Clearfield’s Academic Building from 1 p.m. – 2:30 p.m.
Both work for the Pennsylvania Department of Conservation and Natural Resources (DCNR), in the Bureau of State Parks, and are assigned at Parker Dam State Park in northern Clearfield County.
Their primary duties at the park are to develop, plan, and facilitate the park’s outdoor programming services, including public interpretive programs, environmental education for school groups, and “Get Outdoors” recreational programs.
The class is offered at no charge, but pre-registration is required. Register by calling the CCAAA at 814-765-2696.
