KARTHAUS TOWNSHIP – State police at Clearfield are investigating an alleged burglary/criminal mischief incident in which a front end loader was completely destroyed sometime between Friday and Monday at the River Hill Coal Tipple off of Pottersdale Road in Karthaus Township.
According to the report, someone allegedly arrived and forced entry into a garage. Once inside they allegedly started a John Deere 544 H front end loader with a key that was left in its ignition.
Then, they allegedly drove the loader to the job site, where its bucket was used to damage five construction vehicles. Afterward, they allegedly left the loader in close proximity to a 200-foot high wall.
They allegedly placed a rock on the loader’s accelerator. This caused it to travel over the high wall and to overturn several times, state police said.
“The loader was completely destroyed,” state police said, adding damage has been estimated at $100,000.
