Two people were found guilty of “refugee smuggling” in the drowning case of Syrian toddler Alan Kurdi, Anadolu news agency reported.
They were each sentenced to four years and two months in prison in the death of Alan and four other refugees, according to the agency.
Alan was one of 12 people who drowned after their boat capsized during a perilous crossing from Turkey to Greece.
His tiny body washed up ashore in September, breaking hearts worldwide and highlighting the plight of refugees flooding out of war-torn Syria.
Alan’s mother and 5-year old brother also perished in the accident. His father was the only survivor.
