Donald Trump took a major step toward securing the GOP nomination on Tuesday, so the New York Daily News — a longtime adversary of the brash billionaire — is offering advice to readers who want to flee the country in the event he wins the White House.
“MAKE AMERICA MIGRATE” blares the tabloid’s Wednesday front page, a play on Trump’s “Make America Great Again” campaign slogan.
“Remember when you said you’d leave the U.S. if Trump were elected? We don’t blame you. And it’s time to start planning,” the page reads.
A picture of a passport being set ablaze accompanies the scathing headline, along with an “End of days guide to fleeing the country” subtitle. The accompanying article highlights countries around the world, including Austria and Mexico, examining the pros and cons for would-be American expats, and even includes tips for how to flee the U.S.
The Daily News’ headline is just the latest salvo in the paper’s ongoing feud with the GOP front-runner. The day after Trump received the backing of Chris Christie last week, the paper tore into the New Jersey governor, saying he’s a “MAN WITH A KLAN” — a reference to former Ku Klux Klan Grand Wizard David Duke’s support of Trump.
And the Daily News has skewered Trump repeatedly over the course of his campaign. In February alone, Trump-focused covers featured headlines such as “DEAD CLOWN WALKING” after Trump lost to Texas Sen. Ted Cruz in Iowa; “CONFEDERACY OF DUNCES” after Trump won the Republican South Carolina primary; and “ANTICHRIST!” after the Pope said Trump’s plan to build a wall along the U.S.-Mexico border was “not Christian.”
For his part, Trump has called the Daily News “worthless.”
