Following in his sister’s footsteps, “Dancing With the Stars” pro Derek Hough will not be returning for season 22 of the competition.
People reports that Hough is taking a break after last season’s win with conservationist Bindi Irwin. His sister, Julianne, recently announced that she would not be returning as a judge for the upcoming season.
Hough is beloved by fans, and last season’s championship was a record sixth win for the 30-year-old.
He’ll be taking his dancing shoes to Broadway, where he’ll star in a stage version of the classic film “Singin’ in the Rain.” In one of his Instagram posts, which featured him formally dressed, he wrote, “Proud to be apart of another adventure with The Weinsten Company. #Broadway #singingintherainmusical #classic #2017.”
Producer Harvey Weinstein confirmed that Hough will step into the role that made Gene Kelly famous.
Meanwhile Wednesday, “Full House” and “Fuller House” star Jodie Sweetin announced on Instagram that she will be competing on the upcoming season of “DWTS.”
“FINALLY!!! I can share the fantastic news that I’ll be joining DWTS @dancingabc season,” she wrote. “Can’t wait!! The big announcement was on @goodmorningamerica this morning!!”
