CLEARFIELD – On Tuesday the Clearfield County Commissioners held a brief workshop meeting.
During the workshop, the commissioners approved the county’s 2016 Pennsylvania Statewide Automated Victim Information & Notification (SAVIN) maintenance and service agreement.
PA SAVIN is a free, confidential and automated service that helps victims, law enforcement and community members keep up to date on the status of an offender housed in a county jail, state prison or under state parole supervision within the Commonwealth.
PA SAVIN allows victims to receive specific information about an offender’s custody status, such as an inmate’s release, transfer or escape, according to Commissioner John A. Sobel, chair.
Solicitor Kim Kesner said that PA SAVIN is funded by a grant from the state Commission on Crime & Delinquency. He said it’s administered by the Pennsylvania District Attorneys Institute, which subcontracts the 50/50 grant with various counties.
Kesner said the grant provides 50 percent and the county provides the other 50 percent. He said the county’s annual cost is $1,527.77, and it’s based on the number of beds at the county jail.
Additionally, the commissioners approved a letter of understanding with Elk County for prison support services. Sobel said that this was in regards to housing inmates at either prison depending upon emergency circumstances.
