The mystery surrounding the death of actress Salma Hayek’s dog, Mozart, has been solved. The dog was found shot to death at her Washington state ranch last week.
After Mozart separated from a group of dogs accompanying Hayek’s property caretaker, Kelly Littlejohn, he was found by a man Thurston County, Washington, police identified only as Mr. Lund.
Lund told authorities he heard what sounded like a dogfight in his garage and shot at one of them with his pellet gun. As Mozart ran off, Lund didn’t realize he had been struck.
A necropsy “determined that a .177 cal. lead pellet was found to have traveled between two ribs and then nicked a pulmonary artery causing Mozart to internally bleed out,” according to the police press release.
The Mexican-American actress took to Instagram on Friday to memorialize her dog of nine years and plead for justice in his death.
“I haven’t posted for a week as I been mourning the death of my dog, Mozart, who I personally delivered out of his mother’s womb,” she posted. “He was found dead in my ranch last Friday with a shot close to his heart.”
“He loved his territory and never strayed away … he was the most loving and loyal companion. He didn’t deserve a slow and painful death.”
Hayek is passionate about animals and her ranch serves as a mini animal sanctuary. The 49-year-old star has several rescue dogs, a guinea pig, chickens. alpacas and numerous other animals.
