Mitt Romney blasted Donald Trump’s response to an endorsement from former Ku Klux Klan Grand Wizard David Duke, calling his response “coddling of repugnant bigotry.”
“A disqualifying & disgusting response by @realDonaldTrump to the KKK. His coddling of repugnant bigotry is not in the character of America,” Romney tweeted Monday.
Trump tweeted Monday that he disavowed Duke’s endorsement. But he struggled through an interview with CNN’s Jake Tapper, refusing to say whether he would refuse to accept the support of the former KKK leader.
Trump later blamed his stumbles on a faulty earpiece.
It’s not the first time Romney has worked against Trump in recent weeks. He also said there could be a “bombshell” hidden in Trump’s tax returns and called on the billionaire to release them. The two have been feuding on Twitter ever since.
