DUBOIS – A DuBois man pleaded guilty to possessing marijuana and drug paraphernalia Friday during Centralized Court in District Judge Patrick Ford’s office.
Brenden Thomas Kunselman, 20, 133 DuBois St., DuBois, must complete one year probation and pay fines and costs totaling $673.
He had also been charged with a felony count of manufacture/delivery/possession with intent to deliver a controlled substance and purchasing alcohol by a minor but those charges were withdrawn, according to court documents.
The charges stem from an incident on Aug. 23 when police were called to a report of suspicious activity near 133 DuBois St., at 12:39 a.m. When police made contact with the tenant of the apartment, Kunselman, they could smell marijuana.
An officer asked if anyone had been smoking marijuana, but Kunselman said no. He told the officer to “go ahead and look around.”
As the officer walked through the apartment, he could smell marijuana in a small room at the front. He saw, in plain view, multiple bongs, lighters, rolling papers, a butane torch, glass smoking pipes, multiple clear plastic bags and an electronic vaporizing inhalation device.
In a large, green container he found more lighters, rolling papers, a vaporizer, glass bongs, a grinder with a green leafy substance, a clear jar of stem material, a plastic bag containing stem material, and a quart sized bag with three small plastic bags with a green, leafy substance that smelled like marijuana.
He also saw a silver bowl containing marijuana seeds. Next to the bowl was a blue bag with a bottle of vodka sitting inside. Kunselman said he did not know who the bag belonged to or how it got there.
In the living room, the officer saw in plain view, a half-gallon bag with a green leafy substance inside it. Above this on a shelf were another glass pipe and a tin container with marijuana seeds.
He also saw a glass water bong partially covered by a blanket. When he looked in the kitchen he saw a closed wooden box that Kunselman said held his entertainment stand and PlayStation. Kunselman then admitted that the box contained more drug paraphernalia.
Kunselman told police that all the items found belonged to him.
