As Super Tuesday draws near, Donald Trump has hired the daughter of former presidential candidate and Arkansas Gov. Mike Huckabee as a senior adviser.
Trump announced the hire of Sarah Huckabee Sanders on Thursday, saying he has respect for her and her father.
“I have great respect for Governor Mike Huckabee and we have a mutual admiration for our wonderful families. It is great to have his daughter, Sarah, join the campaign,” the mogul said in a statement.
Huckabee dropped out of the race after a disappointing finish in the Iowa caucuses. He has appeared at a Trump event for veterans in Iowa but has not endorsed his one-time rival for the Republican nomination.
Huckabee Sanders said she is drawn to Trump because he is an outsider.
“I volunteered to join Mr. Trump’s campaign because he is a champion of working families; not Washington-Wall Street elites,” she said in a statement. “What makes Mr. Trump my choice for president is he will break the grip of the donor class on our government and make it accountable to working families again.”
The move comes as Super Tuesday brings what’s called the SEC primary — when seven Southern states, including Arkansas, hold their primaries.
Trump is scheduled to campaign in Arkansas on Saturday.
