PHILIPSBURG – Troopers are seeking help from the public regarding the theft of a commercial vehicle from Reich Drill Inc., 99 Troy-Hawk Run Hwy., Philipsburg, on or about Jan. 14.
According to state police, the vehicle was at this location for repair and had been there for two days prior to being stolen. The truck is owned by a company from Somerset, and Reich Drill was to be performing repairs on the drill section of the machine.
The vehicle is a white cab 2000 Tri-Axle Freightliner with a green Reich Drill Rotary Blast Hole Drill. The cab doesn’t have identifying company logos; however, the drill portion has the company name “Reich Drill” in white letters on both sides, state police said.
The vehicle is valued at $275,000 and is utilized in the mining, rock quarry and construction industries. The vehicle is licensed for roadway operation and was driven from the scene under its own power, state police said.
Because of the industry-specific characteristics of this vehicle and the specialized function that it performs, investigators believe that it may be used at remote mining or rock quarry location, or even be dismantled and sold for parts or scrap. Investigators also pointed out that the sale of the vehicle in its entirety, or parts from this machine, would be to a very limited market due to its unique applications.
“Previous investigations into construction equipment thefts have been solved by individuals providing information to authorities on unused, or partially hidden equipment, or information on equipment that does not fit into the normal operations of a particular business,” state police said.
Anyone with information regarding this vehicle, or similar vehicles, is asked to please contact the state police at Clearfield at 814-857-3800.
