John S. Skraba, 96, DuBois, died Thursday, Feb. 11, 2016 at Christ the King Manor.
Born Aug. 20, 1919, he was the son of the late Samuel and Rozalia (Stec) Skraba.
He married Josephine A. Marciniak on May 3, 1947 at Holy Rosary Church in Johnsonburg.
Mr. Skraba served during World War II in the U.S. Army with the 345th Engineering Regiment in North Africa & European Theatre of Operations receiving three Bronze Stars.
He was employed as a machinist at Osborn Machine Co. for 32 years. He was also employed as a tool and die maker at Brockway Pressed Metals from where he retired.
He was a member of the St. Michael the Archangel Roman Catholic Church, where he ushered for many years. He was also a past member of the church choir.
He was a member of the James J. Patterson Post 813 Veteran of Foreign Wars and the Pulaski Club. He was a graduate of the DuBois Area High School.
He loved listening to polka music and dancing. He also enjoyed gardening and being outdoors.
Mr. Skraba is survived by Josephine, his wife of 68 years; a daughter, Rose Anne Young and her husband, John of Hagerstown, Md.; and a son, Dennis Skraba and his wife, Annette of DuBois.
He is also survived by four grandsons, Thomas J. Richards Jr. and his wife, Tammi of Greencastle and Jeffrey, Andrew and Paul Skraba, all of DuBois, and two great-grandchildren, Marlee and Braedon Richards of Greencastle.
He is also survived by two brothers, Steve Skraba and Henry Skraba and his wife, Darlene and four sisters, Irene Zinzella, Frances Shaw, Josephine Smith and Carolyn Robertson and her husband, Tim, all of DuBois.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his step-mother, Anna Radzik Skraba; two brothers, Raymond and Alex Skraba; and two sisters, Mildred Rutkowski and Mary Ann Sicheri.
Friends will be received from 1 p.m. – 5 p.m. Sunday at the Goble-Baronick Funeral Home.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11 a.m. Monday at the St. Michael the Archangel Roman Catholic Church with Fr. Daniel Kresinski as celebrant.
Full military honors will be accorded from the church by the members of the DuBois Area Honor Guard.
Burial will follow in St. Michael Cemetery.
