Frank T. “Fert” DuFour, 90, of Gulich Township died Monday, Feb. 8, 2016 at the Mountain Laurel Nursing & Rehabilitation Center.
Born Feb. 23, 1925 in Houtzdale, he was the son of the late Frank Sr. and Elizabeth (Finney) DuFour.
He served in the U.S. Navy during World War II on the oil tanker USS Chihuahua in both the European and Pacific Theaters.
He was the former commander and an active life member of VFW Post 6321 in Smithmill. He spent 47 years as a deep miner and was a member of the UMWA Local 1520.
He was a member of the St. Vladimir Ukrainian Orthodox Church in Janesville.
He loved the outdoors, especially hunting and fishing.
He married Catherine Rusnak on June 28, 1947 in St. Vladimir’s Ukrainian Orthodox Church. She survives him at home.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by his daughter, Shelley DuFour-Martin and her husband, James of Illinois; a son, Barry DuFour and his wife, Deb of South Dakota; a sister, Marie Sylva of South Dakota; and three grandchildren, Ryan N. DuFour, Brianna E. DuFour and Garrett J. Martin.
Family will receive friends from 1 p.m. – 3 p.m. and from 5 p.m. – 8 p.m. Thursday at Kruise-Spewock Funeral & Cremation Services Inc., Madera. Prayers of Transferal will be sung in the funeral home at 9:15 a.m. Friday.
Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Friday at the St. Vladimir Ukrainian Orthodox Church, Janesville, with Fr. Paul Bigelow as celebrant. Burial with military honors will follow in St. Vladimir Ukrainian Cemetery, Ramey.
