CLEARFIELD – Community members are invited to join “a determined group of people” from the Clearfield area in an attempt to end winter on “Hoodie Hoo Day,” a little known national holiday, during a celebration Feb. 20 in downtown Clearfield.
On this winter day just one month prior to spring, Hoodie Hoo Day is celebrated in numerous ways in different locations. But most celebrations involve groups of people gathering on or about Feb. 20 and preferably at noontime and outdoors.
In Clearfield, people will make noise and shout “Wake up Hoodie Hoo!” Then, the group will visit various locations in downtown Clearfield with the wooden image of “Hoodie Hoo” carved by John Crissman of Elliott’s Park.
Other events include “Shoot the Groundhog” by trying to knock the groundhog off his post on top of a slippery red canister at some stops, coloring for children and finding the “Hoodie Hoo.” Token prizes will be awarded, and any proceeds raised will be donated to a determined local family in need.
On Feb. 20 the group will start at Spanky’s Courthouse Cafe at 10:30 a.m. and proceed at 11 a.m. to Express Café. It will then travel past Clearfield Pharmacy and Bob’s Army & Navy to arrive at the Clearfield County Courthouse at 12 p.m.
At 12 p.m., people will make noise, wave their hands over their heads and shout to chase away the winter blahs and bring in spring. They will then proceed to some of the other merchants in downtown.
