Charles Darrah “Pappy” Walker, 81, of Clearfield went to be with the Lord Wednesday, Feb. 3, 2016 at Penn Highlands DuBois Hospital with his family at his side.
Born Jan. 30, 1935, he was the son of Raymond and Ruth (Ritzen) Walker.
He was a 1955 graduate of Clearfield High School and served his country as both active duty and reservist in the U.S. Navy with the rank of QMSN.
He had worked for the former A&P grocery stores in both Emporium and Clearfield, the Clearfield Hospital, the former Acme Market in Clearfield and the former Riverside Markets in Clearfield.
He was a former Pike Township Supervisor and retired from the Sky Haven Coal Co.
He attended and was a member of the Clearfield Alliance Church where he helped in several areas of ministry. He was also an avid outdoorsman and a member of the Dry Hollow Hunting Camp, where he served as treasurer and camp steward for many years.
He also enjoyed working with his brother-in-law, John Smeal on special projects and participated in the Silver Sneakers Program. He loved his family and friends and in his own way made sure each person knew how special they were to him.
On June 12, 1955, he wed the former Patricia Ann Smeal, who survives along with three children, Deb Thompson and her husband, Joe of Morrisdale, Tim Walker and his wife, Donna of Woodland and Tom Walker and his wife, Wanda of Clearfield.
He is also survived by six grandchildren, Andy Shaffer and his wife Melissa, Christina Iraca and her husband, Christion, Eric Walker, Mark Walker and his wife, Allison, Thomas Walker Jr. and his wife, Kacey and Micah Walker.
Also surviving are two great-grandchildren, Hudson Walker and Anna Iraca; two step-grandchildren, JoAnne Thompson and Joy Thompson; five step great-grandchildren, Gage, Ethan, Paityn, Trista and Airan; as well as a brother, John Walker of Homer City and a sister, Jean McCall of Greenville, RD Grampian.
A Celebration of Life Memorial Service will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday at the Clearfield Alliance Church with Pastor Robert Goldenberg officiating.
Friends will be received from 12 p.m. – 2 p.m. Saturday at the church.
