Megyn Kelly said she expects Donald Trump to be at the next Fox News debate on March 3, and that she’s ready for him.
“I think he’ll show up at that one, which is great,” she said Friday in an appearance on ABC’s Good Morning America. “We’ll just move our Trump questions from the last debate over to this debate.”
Trump has been taking shots at Kelly since the first Fox debate last summer, and he skipped the Fox debate right before the Iowa caucus, claiming the network and Kelly wouldn’t treat him fairly.
Some have speculated that the missed appearance may have cost votes for Trump, who finished second.
On Thursday, Trump was non-committal when CNNMoney asked him if he’d be at the March 3 debate. “It’s a long ways away. We’ll see,” he said during a New Hampshire press conference.
But on Friday, Trump changed his mind.
“I’ll be there. I have no objection to being there,” Trump told Newsmax TV.
Kelly said she has no regrets about her question during the first debate, when she asked Trump about his comments toward women, calling them “fat pigs,” “dogs,” “slobs” and “disgusting animals.”
“I still think it was a great question,” Kelly said. “I stand by every question I asked him. He was not the only one who got tough questions. He was the only one, however, who complained.”
Kelly said she agrees with comments by Hillary Clinton this week that the Internet has become home for a “special amount of venomous commentary” reserved for women, a comment in which the candidate specifically pointed to attacks on Kelly. Trump has retweeted tweets that called Kelly a “bimbo”
“That’s the problem with language like bimbo,” Kelly said. “It gins up other comments along those lines, which is diminishing, obviously, not just to the woman being attacked but to women in general. Hopefully we can get to a point where we elevate the level of debate.”
