WRESTLING
WILLIAMSPORT — After receiving his first Empire Collegiate Wrestling Conference Wrestler of the Week honor early last week for winning a Middle Atlantic Conference championship Jan. 23, junior 165-pounder Nolan Barger (Clearfield) responded by adding two more bonus victories to his unbeaten record in Lycoming dual meet triumphs.
Barger breezed to a 19-2 technical fall in 6:16 over Alfred (N.Y.) State’s Konnor Kremer with 10 back points and pairs of takedowns and reversals Thursday night and followed that up with a 10-1 major decision over King’s Angelo Lussi in Scandlon Gymnasium Sunday.
Those dominating performances moved Barger up the ladder on two Lycoming all-time lists.
He became the ninth Warrior wrestler with at least 25 wins in three seasons and the 12th Warrior to own 90 career wins.
Ranked No. 2 in the nation all season by the National Wrestling Coaches Association and d3wrestle.com, Barger is 25-0 with 18 dual meet wins.
Beating Alfred State 26-19 clinched Lycoming’s 52nd winning record in the 60-year history of the program.
The Warriors bested King’s 32-12 for a 12-6 record.
