Jerome M Solensky, 94, a guest of Christ the King Manor, DuBois since 2002 and formerly of Houtzdale, died Monday, Jan. 25, 2016 at the Manor.
Born Sept. 19, 1921 in Houtzdale, he was the son of Michael and Rose (Kauczka) Solensky.
He was a member of Christ the King Catholic Church, Houtzdale, Knights of Columbus Our Lady of the Valley Council No. 10376 and United Mine Workers of America No. 1520.
Mr. Solensky was a graduate of Woodward High School. He enjoyed hunting, fishing and gardening.
He retired from Rushton Mines in Osceola Mills in 1985, where he worked in the carpenter shop and water quality control.
Prior to his employment at Rushton, he worked with his father in construction, plumbing and heating.
He is survived by a sister, Rosemary Moore of Verona; a brother, Michael; a special friend, Carol Beegle of Treasure Lake; a niece, Laura; and a nephew, Jeffrey.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a sister, Genevieve Ann Solensky.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11 a.m. Friday at Christ the King Catholic Church, Houtzdale, with Father Marc Solomon as celebrant.
Friends will be received from 7 p.m. – 9 p.m. Thursday at the Birger A. Freeberg Funeral Home Inc., Houtzdale.
A vigil prayer service will be led by Father Marc Solomon at 7 p.m. followed by the Knights of Columbus service at 8:30 p.m. at the funeral home.
Burial will be in the Sacred Heart Cemetery, Brisbin.
Family suggests memorial donations be made to Christ the King Manor, 1100 W. Long Ave., DuBois, PA 15801.
A celebration of life memorial service will be held in the spring.
