WESTOVER — Jake Terry’s deep three-pointer with 8.9 seconds remaining lifted the visiting Curwensville Area High School boys basketball team to a thrilling 47-46 victory over Harmony Wednesday night.
The Golden Tide avenged a mid-December 45-44 loss by turning the tables on the Owls with a 17-point second quarter for a 23-22 halftime lead.
In their earlier Moshannon Valley League game, coach Shane Pentz’s team failed to score in the second period and than had a fourth-quarter rally come up short.
The Golden Tide was forced into another comeback role after the Owls went in front at the outset of the third quarter and maintained the upper hand throughout the second half.
Down by six points with less than three minutes to go, Curwensville (2-15) got into position for Terry’s game-winning shot, his second triple down the stretch, by playing tough defense.
“Our defense carried us late,” Pentz said. “We got stops when we needed them.”
Harmony’s bid to pull it out was foiled by a turnover.
Terry wound up with 12 points, while R.J. Olson topped the Golden Tide with 13, including 10 in the first half to fuel a charge from a 16-6 deficit after one quarter.
“We knew this was gonna be a tight game again, and we made just enough plays offensively to come out with the win,” Pentz said.
Mike Koblosky scored a game-high 15 points, Cody Fritz tallied 11 and Austin Young added 10 for Harmony (7-10).
Devan Barrett and Christian Bakaysa recorded 16 and 14 points, respectively, to pace the Golden Tide junior varsity to a 52-28 win.
Curwensville will be back on its home floor Friday for an Allegheny Mountain League crossover game against Johnsonburg that will count in the South Division standings for the Golden Tide.
