Former presidential candidate George Pataki backed Sen. Marco Rubio on Tuesday, saying he’s the one candidate that “stands out” from the pack.
The former New York governor dropped his own bid for president in December. He had run in the moderate candidate lane among Republicans, but barely registered in the polls.
He said he was “proud” to endorse the Florida senator Tuesday on Fox News.
“We need someone who’s going to bring Americans together,” Pataki said. “Sen. Rubio has the leadership, he has the vision, he has the intelligence.”
It’s the first former candidate to endorse Rubio. Sen. Lindsey Graham, R-South Carolina, endorsed Rubio rival Jeb Bush and former Texas Gov. Rick Perry endorsed Texas Sen. Ted Cruz.
