Bernie Sanders presented his final pitch to Iowa voters Monday in a new ad with a decidedly optimistic tone and one closing request: Please show up to caucus on February 1.
“There are those who say we cannot defeat a corrupt political system and fix a rigged economy,” Sanders says in the ad, which begins airing tomorrow. “But I believe we need to lift our vision above the obstacles in place — and look to the American horizon.”
As Sanders speaks, the ad shows a bright sun rising over cornfields, a clear reference to then-candidate Barack Obama, who’s iconic “O” symbol also appeared to be a sun rising over rolling fields.
Sanders also released an ad last week, choreographed to the Simon and Garfunkel ballad “America,” which won positive reviews.
Sanders is scheduled to speak at Monday night’s Democratic forum, hosted by CNN. The latest CNN poll showed the Vermont senator leading Clinton by 8 percentage points in Iowa, 51% to 43%.
