WASHINGTON TOWNSHIP (EYT) – A 37-year-old man was seriously injured in a crash late Sunday afternoon in Washington Township, Jefferson County.
DuBois-based state police say the accident happened around 4:35 p.m. on Airport Road (state Route 830), just west of Anderson Drive.
According to state police, 37-year-old James R. Horner of Falls Creek was traveling westbound on Airport Road in the right lane “at a speed greater than reasonable and prudent,” as he was approaching a sharp left turn.
As Horner attempted to negotiate the turn, his 2008 Subaru Legacy left the roadway and impacted the end of a guiderail.
Horner’s vehicle then traveled approximately 20 feet before being launched airborne across a small stream. The vehicle remained in flight for approximately 40 feet before crashing into an embankment.
Horner was ejected through the windshield of the vehicle and thrown approximately 32 feet through the air, according to state police. His vehicle then overturned before coming to a final rest on its roof.
Horner was transported to UPMC Altoona via Stat Medivac helicopter for treatment of major injuries, state police say.
There is no word on his current condition.
Falls Creek Volunteer Fire Department and Amserv LDT/Dusan Community Ambulance assisted at the scene.
