Part of the German Chancellery, which houses the offices of German leader Angela Merkel, has been cordoned off because a suspicious object has been spotted, according to a police spokesman.
The area was cordoned off at 8:30 a.m. (2:30 a.m. ET) Wednesday, federal police press spokesman Thorsten Peters told CNN.
The suspicious object was found in the main entrance area, Peters said.
The building, which is quite large, is only partly closed, the spokesman said. He did not say whether Merkel was in the building.
