Newt Gingrich and Hillary Clinton may have a long relationship as political rivals, but the former Republican House speaker is backing one part of the Democratic front-runner’s presidential platform.
Gingrich, who was former President Bill Clinton’s chief antagonist while in office, came out in favor of Hillary Clinton’s push to find a cure for Alzheimer’s by 2025.
“I often disagree with @HillaryClinton but on #Alzheimers she is moving in the right direction,” Gingrich tweeted Tuesday, with a link to a CNN story describing Clinton’s plan.
The Democratic front-runner on Tuesday unveiled her initiative, which would invest $2 billion annually in fighting the disease and researching a cure. The proposal would be paid for by tax reform proposals and other savings.
It’s not the first time Gingrich has partnered with Clinton or Democrats on specific policies.
In 2005, Clinton and Gingrich made a joint appearance to promote a bill modernizing medical record-keeping.
And in 2008, Gingrich recorded an ad with then-House Speaker Nancy Pelosi promoting action on climate change on a couch outside the Capitol.
Clinton is set to unveil her plan in Fairfield, Iowa, later on Tuesday.
