CLEARFIELD – Some last-minute surprises have made the Giving Trees a great success for the elderly in the greater Clearfield area.
At Thursday’s Clearfield Borough Council meeting, Mayor Jim Schell said the final numbers were in for the trees. Schell said thanks to some last-minute donations, the Clearfield County Area Agency on Aging along with the Clearfield Borough Police Department, CVS, Clearfield Pharmacy, CNB Bank and all others who helped, were able to raise about $9,000 for fuel assistance, more than $900 in gift cards and too many items to count.
“I know the staff (at CCAAA) and everyone who helped really appreciate how many people donated,” Schell said. “We had a couple give six $300 donations and we took truck-loads over to the Area Agency on Aging. I know a lot of the case-workers are really excited to get everything distributed,” Schell said.
Schell said everything is being distributed by the case-workers to the citizens in need and he said that plans are already in the works for next year.
Also at the meeting, residents were reminded that there are no pick-ups for Christmas trees. Anyone needing to dispose of a tree after the holidays can take them to the compost site on 21st Street behind the Clearfield County Jail.
