Joseph P. ‘Pete’ Marino, 94, of Clearfield died Tuesday, Dec. 15, 2015 at his home.
He was born Dec. 9, 1921 in Mineral Springs, a son of the late James and Mary (Mobilia) Marino. Mr. Marino was a barber for 52 years, retiring in 1989.
He was also a life member of the Knights of Columbus Council 409, Sons of Italy Lodge No. 189, the Clearfield VFW and the Clearfield American Legion for more than 70 years.
He was a member of the St. Francis Church. He also had admirably served with the U.S. Army during World War II in the European Theater, including participation in the Battle of the Bulge.
He is survived by seven children, Peter J. Marino and his wife, Deborah, Michael Marino and his wife, Cynthia and Joseph A. Marino and his companion, Christy Fulton, all of Clearfield; Jim Marino and his wife, Joanne of New Hampshire; Mary C. ‘KK’ Marino of State College; Gina Harasti and her husband, Tracy of Maryland; and Joanne Herrington and her fiancé, Phil Masemer of Harpers Ferry, W.Va.
He is survived by his grandchildren, Ryan Marino and his wife, Shealyn and their sons, Tanner and Colten; Amy Marino and her son, Anthony; Michael Marino and his wife, Rachel and their sons, Carter, Paris and Avery; Jeanette Marino and her son, Rocco; Dan Marino; Sam Marino; and Nicholas Karth.
Mr. Marino is also survived by his companion, Elaine Matlack of New Millport and numerous nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Rose (Panasiti) Marino, on July 20, 1998 and to whom he was wed June 15, 1946 in Clearfield.
He was also preceded in death by two sisters, Jenny Aveni and Josephine Sorbera; three brothers, Frank, Sam and Anthony ‘Tony’ Marino; and a son-in-law, Curtis Herrington.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be said at 10 a.m. Saturday at the St. Francis Catholic Church, Clearfield, with Father John L. Miller as celebrant. Burial will follow in the Calvary Cemetery, Clearfield.
Military honors will be accorded at cemetery by the Clearfield American Legion and VFW Honor Guard.
Friends will be received from 5 p.m. – 8 p.m. Friday and from 9 a.m. – 9:30 a.m. Saturday at the Kevin A. Beardsley Funeral Home, Clearfield.
The family suggests that memorial contributions be made to St. Francis Catholic Church, 212 S. Front St., Clearfield, or to the charity of one’s choice.
