BELLEFONTE — The Clearfield Area High School girls basketball team came from behind in the fourth quarter to eke out a 48-47 Mountain League win over Bellefonte Wednesday night.
“We had to play some nice, tough defense to hold them to six points in the fourth quarter,” Lady Bison coach Joey Castagnolo said. “That was the difference.”
A 10-2 run keyed by Rachel Glenny and Brooke Cline had given the Lady Bison a late 47-43 lead, but Jess Book gave the Lady Raiders hope by banking in a three-pointer with just over 10 seconds remaining.
Ally Lindstrom was fouled almost immediately and made the first of two free throws for what proved to be the winning point.
Bellefonte rebounded her miss with 8.1 seconds on the clock and set up a play for Book, who drew a foul in the final seconds but made only one of the two free throws.
Glenny and Book were locked in a scoring duel throughout, with the Lady Raider recording a 21-20 edge.
Both sparkled in the first period, Book scoring nine points to propel Bellefonte to a 19-12 start and Glenny answering with eight to keep Clearfield in it.
They had 13 apiece at halftime, and Glenny attained her season-high with three points in the third quarter and four in the crucial final period.
The Lady Bison, 2-1 in the league, leveled their record at 3-3 for Friday’s home game with defending champion and preseason favorite Tyrone.
