Two people already charged with felony child abuse, torture and mayhem could also face murder charges after two children were found dead in a northern California storage unit, police in the city of Redding said.
The bodies were discovered as authorities investigated the abuse of a third child, according to a police statement released Monday.
The deceased children were siblings who were 3 and 5 years old, according to CNN affiliate KSBW. The third child is undergoing surgery, KSBW reported.
Tami Joy Huntsman, 39, and Gonzalo Curiel, 17, both of Quincy in Plumas County, are being held in the Plumas County Jail on the initial charges, authorities said.
A homicide investigation has been opened and autopsy results are pending, according to the statement.
