The Microsoft Theater in downtown Los Angeles buzzed with music stars of all genres for the American Music Awards on Sunday night.
It was a huge success for Nicki Minaj and The Weeknd, who both took home several awards. Justin Bieber, along with Skrillex and Diplo, won the collaboration of the year award.
Taylor Swift also received multiple awards, including song of the year for “Blank Space.” One Direction had the biggest win for the night getting artist of the year award, the band’s second win of the night.
Jennifer Lopez, host of this year’s AMAs, kicked off the show with her dance moves featuring some of the year’s most popular song tracks, including ones by Taylor Swift and Rihanna.
“Tonight’s not about me; tonight’s about the music,” J. Lo said at the start of the night.
Demi Lovato had the crowd going with her new single, “Confident.”
Meghan Trainor and Charlie Puth took to the stage for a duet on their “Marvin Gaye” hit along with other duet performances.
The Weeknd was first to receive the award for the night as favorite R&B/soul album for “Beauty Behind the Madness,” marking his first AMA award.
