Margaret Jane Bender, 94, a resident of Windy Hill Village, Philipsburg, and formerly of Clearfield, died Monday, Nov. 16, 2015 at Windy Hill Village.
She was born in Clearfield on Dec. 27, 1920, the oldest daughter of the late William and Elva (Gingery) Adams. She retired from Kurtz Brothers School Supplies of Clearfield, where she was a secretary for more than 25 years.
She also spent countless hours of teaching classes and operating Bender’s Ceramic Shop on Ogden Avenue in Clearfield. She was a very talented instructor and her students learned to produce beautiful creations. She also operated Bender’s Ham and Cheese stand with her husband at numerous fairs for more than 20 years.
She was a member of the West Side Methodist Church in Clearfield. She was also a member of N.O.N. of Clearfield for many years. She enjoyed playing cards and was a member of a card club that played for more than 40 years.
She was married to Llewellyn O. Bender for 55 years. He preceded her in death on Feb. 14, 1994.
She is survived by four sons, Donald Bender and his wife, Darlene of Bigler; Norman Bender and his wife, Susan of Philipsburg; Dennis Bender of Centre Hall; and Michael Bender and his wife, Eva Of Mifflinburg; 10 grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren.
She is also survived by a brother, Ellery Adams of Clearfield and two sisters, Helen Freed of Telford and Mary Beightol of Clearfield.
A memorial service will be held at 1 p.m. Sunday, at the chapel of Trinity United Methodist Church, 121 S. Front St., Philipsburg.
