CLEARFIELD – A Clearfield man accused of assaulting a man inside a local bar waived his right to a preliminary hearing Wednesday during Centralized Court.
Robert Paul Burkett, 29, 710 Weaver St., Clearfield, is charged with aggravated assault, simple assault, recklessly endangering another person, disorderly conduct-engage in fighting and harassment as a result of an incident on Nov. 4 at Mary’s Bar in Clearfield Borough. His bail was set at $25,000 unsecured.
According to the affidavit of probable cause, at 1:43 a.m. police were called to a fight in progress at the bar. When the officers arrived they found a man lying on the floor with a large amount of blood flowing from his nose/face area and a woman providing medical treatment to this victim.
An employee of the establishment said the victim and Burkett had a physical altercation, which led to the victim lying on the floor. At that point, Burkett allegedly began kicking the victim three or four times about the head, face and nose causing blunt force trauma to those areas. The victim’s teeth were forced through his lips causing open wounds.
In addition to the large amount of blood on the floor around the victim, there was a lot of blood coming from the victim’s nose.
Burkett had fled the establishment once he was told the police had been called.
Clearfield EMS responded and medical personnel treated the victim before taking him to the hospital. He was later flown by helicopter to the Altoona Hospital Trauma Center for an evaluation and treatment.
The officers searched the area for Burkett, who was on foot and traveling south on South Third Street. Because they were unable to find him, they requested assistance from Lawrence Township police officers. They went to Burkett’s home and knocked on the front door, but no one came to the door.
