Tropical Storm Kate has formed near the Central Bahamas, according to the National Hurricane Center. The storm, which is moving northwest at 15 mph, is expected to turn east on Monday.
According to the hurricane center, Kate had maximum sustained winds of 40 mph, with higher gusts.
Parts of the Bahamas are under a tropical storm warning. The storm currently does not pose a threat to the U.S. mainland, the hurricane center said.
