A Jordanian police officer killed two Americans at a police training facility near the capital, Amman, on Monday, Jordan’s official Petra news agency reported.
A South African contractor and the police officer also died in the violence, Petra said. Mohammed el-Moumni, a government representative, said two other Americans were wounded, the agency reported.
What led to the shooting was not immediately clear.
“We have received reports about a security incident at the Jordan International Police Training Center,” a spokesman from the U.S. Embassy in Jordan told CNN. “We are in contact with the appropriate Jordanian authorities, who have offered their full support. We will report more information when available and appropriate.”
