Ruth N. Gearhart Wood, 93, a resident of Windy Hill Village, Philipsburg, and formerly of Hudson, was called home to be with her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on Friday, Nov. 6, 2015.
Born Feb. 12, 1922 in Philipsburg, she was a daughter of the late Harry and Rella (Gunter) Bainey. She was a graduate of Philipsburg High School.
She was Free Methodist by faith. She was a long-time active member of the Gearhartville Free Methodist Church.
She worked and retired from WPHB radio, where she was a bookkeeper. She was a loving wife, mother, grandmother and friend.
She was a blessing to everyone who met her. She touched the lives of many and always put others first. Her smile and laugh will never be forgotten. She will be sorely missed by family and friends.
On March 14, 1941 in Philipsburg, she married Thomas “Dee” Gearhart, who died April 2, 1984.
She then married Paul S. Wood on Nov. 17, 1995 in Philipsburg. He died Sept. 3, 2006.
She is survived by a daughter, Lisa Dinant and her husband, Gary of Philipsburg; a step-son, Rod Wood of California; and a sister, Rella Wood of Macon, Ga.
She is survived by five grandchildren, Terri Morin and her husband, Denny, Tom Cerifko and his wife, Deb, Mark Dinant and his wife, Dana, Susan Lang and her husband, John and Sharon Gibbons and her husband, Joe; 14 great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents and both husbands, she was preceded in death by a daughter, Sandra (Gearhart) Cerifko, two sisters, Clara Steel Herman and Aretta V. Fenton and four brothers, Charles, John, William and Alvin Bainey.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday at the David K. Dahlgren Funeral Home, Philipsburg, with the Rev. Larry Aldrich and the Rev. Dr. Donald R. Wood, her nephew, co-officiating. Burial will be in the Philipsburg Cemetery.
Friends will be received from 2 p.m. – 4 p.m. and from 6 p.m. – 8 p.m. Wednesday and from 10 a.m. – 11 a.m. Thursday at the funeral home.
