A U.S. military official confirmed Wednesday that an unmanned aerial vehicle crashed in the mountains of central Afghanistan.
The vehicle crashed in the Mosahi District of Kabul province. U.S. Army spokesman Col. Michael Lawhorn said there are no reports of casualties, but the Pentagon did not immediately provide any further details.
There have been several drone crashes as the U.S. military increasingly relies on UAVs in the fight against al Qaeda and other terrorist groups.
In one case in 2011, a drone crash in Iran was associated with a CIA reconnaissance mission, which involved intelligence and military personnel stationed in Afghanistan.
