Controversial Iraqi political figure Ahmed Chalabi has died of a heart attack, a senior Iraqi military source told CNN on Tuesday.
Iraqi state media also reported the death of Chalabi, who played a prominent role in U.S. claims under President George W. Bush in the lead-up to the invasion of Iraq in 2003 that dictator Saddam Hussein possessed weapons of mass destruction.
Chalabi, 71, founded the Iraqi National Congress, an umbrella organization for Iraqi opposition groups, in 1992. He remained its leader until his death.
